Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson

There are few systems less just than our criminal justice system; a sentiment one can’t help but feel after reading the hard truths exposed in this book. It is a difficult but critical read where Stevenson writes the chilling details of Walter McMillian’s case, one of his first clients as a young attorney. McMillian’s case and the injustice he faced as a wrongly condemned, poor, black man, compelled Stevenson to found the Equal Justice Initiative. This book tells this story while rousing rage and empathy, admiration, and flipping notions of justice and mercy on their head.
