Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

While Tova Sullivan navigates a new chapter of life working night shifts cleaning an aquarium, she develops an unlikely friendship with a clever and cynical octopus named Marcellus. Late night interactions at the aquarium reveal to the octopus that he can help Tova solve the mystery of her teenage son’s disappearance decades prior. All Marcellus needs to do is to figure out how to tell her before his time runs out. Through chapters that transition between perspectives of three main characters, including Marcellus, Van Pelt explores the dynamics of relationships lost and gained over time and how they can develop in unconventional ways with unconventional beings.
